Traditional router in the network play a quarantine network, isolate broadcastRouting and forwarding and firewall operations and with the continuous development ofthe network, the router load is growing rapidly. With the growing data traffic routersbecome the bottleneck of the network. To address this bottleneck local network, manycompanies, schools and communities have built LAN with the layer3switch. Layer3switch technologies will be introduced to the network layer switching technology; theapplication of three switches from the initial center of the backbone network layer,convergence layer has been penetrated into the edge of the network access layer.FIB (Forward Information Base) is conceptually similar to the routing table orinformation base. FIB is the core of Layer three forwarding, it maintains an IP routingtable to forward the information contained in the mirror. When the network routing ortopology changes, IP routing table is updated, and these changes are reflected in the FIB.FIB based on IP routing table information, maintains the address of the next networksegment information. Router to forward packets is the key to the FIB, the packetforwarding in the system when the FIB table lookup is not the routing table. This isbecause the routing table indicates that all valid routing table entry formed, does not directthe forwarding. FIB table is used to control the network layer datagram sent. FIB containsthe router to forward packets in a set of minimum necessary information.The paper describes FIB6(IPv6FIB) project developed by the author during theinternship. Firstly, introduce the background of the project, then introduce the basicfunctions of FIB6and its dependence of the relevant module, and then divided the projectbased on the interaction with the external module and its functions, and each module hasbeen specific analysis and design, in the implementation section describes the mainfunctions of each functional module, lastly, introduce the unit testing and the systemtesting of the project.
