Whether in the direct application of the industry or getting diode lasers as conventionalsolid-state laser pumping sources, the poor beam quality of diode lasers including a largedivergence angle and very uneven intensity distribution prevent it from sustainable development and using. After reading a large number of domestic and foreign papers about laserbeam shaping technology, we consider that choosing a kaleidoscope as a shaping tool isfeasible. It can not only control the shape and size of the outgoing beam and can get veryuniform intensity distribution.Meanwhile the beam reshaping system of kaleidoscope issimple, practical and inexpensive from the economic.This thesis not only establishes the mathematical model of light intensity distribution onthe exit end of square kaleidoscope about a uniform parallel beam focused by parabolicsurface into or circularly symmetric fundamental mode Gaussian beam focused by thin lensinto the square kaleidoscope then homogenized by multiple reflections in geometrical opticsand Gaussian beam propagation theory but also discusses the propagation rule of the beamafter multiple reflections in the kaleidoscope and the light intensity distribution pattern in theoutgoing space. This nature of the kaleidoscope is the essence of homogenizing the beam.This thesis also verify a basic conclusion: for a given surface shape of the kaleidoscope and abunch of specific spatial angle distribution of the beam, the longer the homogenizing rod, themore the number of its imaging,the more uniform the light intensity distribution.But forN-regular polygon kaleidoscopes whose face sides are more than six,the light intensitydistribution on the exit end of the kaleidoscopes are not necessarily more uniform than thelight intensity distribution on the exit end of square kaleidoscope. The results fromsimulation and experiments prove that the kaleidoscope system reshaping and homogenizingthe beam is simple and effective.
