Fiber coupled modules of high-power semiconductor diode lasers are widely used in modern industries. It is one of major products that develop new industries and promote traditional manufacturing. It depends on many key technologies, mainly involving material growing of semiconductor, fiber technology, micro optics, fine processing, cooling technology, coupling package and minuteness mechanics. This paper investigates fiber coupling technology of high-power semiconductor diode laser stacks, involving collimation, transforming of the beam that semiconductor diode lasers and diode lasers arrays emit and then coupling into optical fiber. Thus, the beam quality is improved, and the semiconductor diode lasers application scope is enlarged for optical fiber is flexible and can guide laser energy to anywhere.To couple laser beam into optical fiber, the corresponding beam parameter must fit the core diameter and numerical aperture of the fiber. For this, we should first consider parameter matching problem. We study the emitting character of diode laser and its arrays for it is the precondition of fiber coupling. The adjust error effects coupling efficiency, so we analyze this in quantities. We also analyze the beam loss in fiber and its influence on coupling efficiency. Collimation is very important in fiber coupling, its result directly effects the efficiency of the whole system. We analyze several collimation lenses, and compare their effectiveness in order to find the most effective way for coupling. The methods for fiber coupling of high-power semiconductor diode laser stacks include beam shaping, polarization multiplexing, wavelength multiplexing and mixed ways. Each method is effective in some scope, and we can use different method according to special situation.Depending on above preparation, we design coupling scheme for high-power semiconductor diode laser stacks, simulate the model using computer, and finally examine the scheme by test.
