Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is a discipline in order to solve complexengineering system Design. The main research directions of MDO are frameworks, surrogatemodels, methods and applications. A MDO framework is the problem-solving environmentthat supports application of multidisciplinary design optimization, and refers to a hardwareand software architecture that enables integration, execution, and communication amongdiverse disciplinary processes. At present MDO frameworks can solve MDO problems withcompatible software focused geographical distribution. Actually, design software usuallydistributed in environment geographical spread and heterogeneous designed. This papermakes a research in order to build a distributed MDO framework with heterogeneous softwareintegration.Firstly, the present study of MDO frameworks is summarized. According to thecharacteristics of the MDO framework, the paper compares the common MDO frameworks,and points out the deficiencies of the framework are not easy for expression of MDO methods,and weak for concurrent optimization.Secondly, in order to solve the problem that MDO methods are not easy to express in theMDO framework, this paper puts forward the method of modeling MDO process. Through thecomparison of the existing process modeling methods, modeling MDO process based on thelevel Petri nets is given. And it simplified MDO the expression of the method. ModelingMDO process by hierarchical Petri Nets is given for the expression of MDO methods.Thirdly, in view of the weak point of the distributed environment MDO frameworkparallel computing capacity calculation is, the paper from the perspective of distributedcomputing, through to the integration of heterogeneous design optimization software toimprove the distribution of calculation MDO frame under the environment of parallelcomputing ability, based on the Web service of design software package and integrationmethod, the distribution of the heterogeneous environment design software together Softwareencapsulation and integration based on Web service is given for concurrent optimization ofthe MDO framework.Fourthly, A hybrid P2P architecture based on JXTA is built to provide an inter-areasenvironment for MDO. And then a distributed MDO Framework based on Web services is given. The case study is given to show the actual operation of the proposed distributed MDO architecture.Finally, a conclusion is given and the further research directions of MDO frameworks areanticipated.
