With the rapidly development of enterprise information,3D CAD system is becomingthe dominant design toolkit. Nowadays product designing is more and more complicatedand one enterprise can’t complete all the design work, so lots of company or departmentscomplete collaboratively using their own advantage. Usually they choose different3D CADsystem. So the situation of heterogeneous3D CAD in one product happens. Because ofassembling heterogeneous CAD model is very difficult and interference checking can’t beconducted, so this article provide a method based on lightweight model to solveheterogeneous3D CAD interference checking problems. The main research works are asfollows:1. Use lightweight model as the intermediate model to make the heterogeneous3Dmodel of the same data structure. Then use this kind of lightweight model to completeassembling process.2. Study the data structure of the lightweight model and visualization technologies andintegration with the3D systems.3. In the study of lightweight assembly model interference checking, design a filteralgorithm base on the data structure of the lightweight model.4. Design a collaborative tool based on PLM managing the model designing andinterference checking, which enable designers obtain the accurate feedback as quickly aspossible to modify the original3D models and make collaborative work between designersmuch easier.5. Use software tools to implement this heterogeneous3D CAD interference checkingmethod.The proposed method has been implemented in a commercial3D browser namedInteVue and the application result shows that it can be used as a strong reference during3DHeterogeneous CAD Model designing.
