Currently, transmission networks of the Telecommunications networks has alreadyused fiber optic technology, and exchange network has also became program-controlled.But the access network, as "the last1mile", has developed slowly due to the hugeinvestment, so it has become the bottleneck of the entire system. This directly affects notonly the capacity, quality and speed that we can get from the telecommunicationsnetworks, but also the development and utilization of the network resources.Because of its reliability and high-speed, PON technology has become one of themost popular programms of access network in the future. People are paying more andmore attention to it. The FFT-based OFDM-PON is limited by the processing speed ofelectronic chips. The all-Optical-OFDM based PON uplink data transmission system, overcome the limit of electrical processing speed. It can multiplex and demultiplex anOFDM signal directly in the optical domain, through the use of optical passive devicesOIFFT and OFFT, which not need complex scheduling algorithms in TDM-PON.The major work for OFDM-PON of this paper is listed as follows: First introduce thehistory and the development of the telecommunications access network and the OFDMtechnology, also summarize the OFDM-PON researching background and situation. Then, the operation principle and model of OFDM technology is deeply discussed. Somecharacters of OFDM technology, such as cyclic prefix and guard interval, synchronizationtechnology, frequency offset and phase noise, peak to average power ratio, channelestimation and other technologies are also discussed in details. And then, theoreticalanalysis and research on all-optical OFDM principle, as well as all-optical OFDM deviceswas done. Finally, introduce the all-optical-OFDM technology to the PON uplinktransmission, solving the problem of slot allocation, which is the difficulty in TDM-PON.One is based on AOS (All-Optical-Sampling)-OFDM, the other is based onsawtooth-driven phase modulator to produce the spectrum moving. By usingVPItransmissionMaker V7.6and MATLAB software, the transmission performance hasbeen simulated and analyzed.
