With the rapid development of Internet, a variety of newly developed applications arebecoming increasingly dependent on Internet resources. Compared with traditionalClient/Server model, P2P technology has great advantages on high scalability, robust,balance loading and so on. P2P network model is gradually replacing the traditional C/Smodel. Hence, the measurement and improvement of P2P system performance play animportant role in the entire internet service improvement. However, there is not a standardmeasurement method for P2P systems. And also the performance improvement is onselecting algorithm and replication strategy, lacks of targeted comprehensive improvementstrategy.A performance measurement set based approach for P2P system performance isintroduced in this paper, which adopts related network performance indicator set toanalyze a single performance indicator formulaically and get accurate measurement results.Considering the special network structure, choose four set of representative performancemeasurement set for measurement analysis and find out the key points for P2P systemperformance improvement are source peers selection, reasonable buffering mechanism aswell as peer selection.For these key points of improvement, three performance improvement methods areintroduced: source peer selection strategy, buffering mechanism as well as peer selection.Also garbage collection, exception handling and log feedback mechanism are developedin the system to improve system stability.The P2P performance measurement and improvement methods are applied in the P2Pfile sharing system, and a before-and-after improvement test has been made. Test resultshows that the performance measurement set based approach can greatly improve testefficiency, and there is a significant increase on transmitting speed after the improvement.This research provides a good method for P2P file sharing system improvement, and hasgreat value in both research and application field.
