The automatic control has been used widely in process control indifferent industry. Temperature control is one of the most common feedbackcontrols in the control system. In the late20years, as the PLC technologydeveloped fast, more and more control related with PLC has also beendeveloped a lot and used in many applications. There is a direction of PLCcontrol to be developed in the near future. Along with the PLC technologydeveloping, PID control has become a dominant control in the industryprocess control.Refer to the advanced purifier, made by the world leading purifiermanufacture in gas purification area in USA èand compared with the design oflocal purifier and some heating furnace, we provided a new heating systemdesign with preheater and blanket heating. Meanwhile, we used solid staterelay as a control electrical element and make PID time proportional controlmethod for temperature control which gets an improvement of control effectbased on the traditional heating methods. It also reflects the advantage of PIDcontrol in this kind of temperature control in the furnace. The control result isbetter than the result from phase control method with direct wire heating.We also replace the traditional single-ship controller with PLC controller.The DL205controller was used and the principle of its control was analyzed.It is proved to be a stable and smart controller with low cost.The stability of the temperature control in this advanced purifier is alsodiscussed and there are several improvement compared with local purifiers. Itincludes:1. Hardware stability. The operating principle of the electrical elements, such as solid state relay, preheater and blanket, was analyzed whichare proved to be more reliable.2. Control software’s stability functions. TheDL205control has several design functions which improved the electricalelements’ stability performance based on time proportional control.The conclusion is PID control can also get satisfied temperature controlresult if the design of heating system is optimized served as the key functionof the control system. Compare with fuzzy control and other optimal control,the tuning method is much easier for PID control which still gets good resultand will be surely widely used in the future.The tuning of PID was based on numeral data collected from worldwideapplications in the US factory and it is also optimized so that more satisfiedtemperature control results are provided...
