Research On Congestion Control Strategies For Internet Services With Customer Impatience

The magnificent increasing number of internet customers, the diversification ofservices and the demand for higher quality of services make the problem of networkservices congestion becoming increasingly prominent, the effective solutions ofnetwork services congestion become an important issue of network services controland management currently. As a participant of network services, customers’behavior impacts the net effect of network service control strategies directly.Therefore, network services pricing control strategies considering some typicalbehavioral characteristics of customers (such as customers’ patience of servicesdelay) has a certain significant theoretical and practical guidance.The paper introduced the retention rate into control strategies to characterizebounded rational behaviors of customers from the view of ISP (Internet ServiceProvider), constructed a function of the effectiveness of customer’s and ISP’srevenue, and established a network congestion compensation pricing model basedon the introduction of compensation thought into network services congestioncontrol strategies. Then, the article used the methods of theoretical analysis,calculations example and numerical simulation to analyze ISP’s revenue underleader-follower games, compensation strategy and reduction strategy respectively.Finally, through simplified the pricing model under compensation strategy, thearticle used the Nash bargaining model to investigate the distribution plan of socialwelfare and the incentive for customers to participate in network servicescongestion control.The results show that ISP’s revenue under revenue maximization strategy issuperior to social welfare maximum strategy, but social welfare maximum strategyimproves social welfare and controls network services congestion effectively. Thecomparison between congestion compensate strategy and reduction strategyindicate that the compensating factor impact the advantage of ISP’s pricingstrategies when the network congestion occurs, and the players’ bargaining abilitydetermines the social welfare distribution plan and its incentives for customers.
