In recent years, for fiber-optic gyro (FOG) was widely used in the inertial navigationsystem, the research for FOG become a very important for institutions and universities. Andthen, the research of the source, as a key component for the FOG, was received extensiveattention. Light source, whose performance directly affects the accuracy of the FOG, was thesource of signal for FOG. A thorough study should be firstly done for the source to improvethe accuracy of the FOG, so that the FOG can be applied in the more precise the occasion.Based on the research of interferometric fiber optic gyro for the Laboratory, a morein-depth study on the erbium-doped fiber source for the fiber optic gyroscope was done in thepaper. In this paper, the performance indicators were analyzed from the basic principles of thefiber optic gyroscopes and signal detection. And then, various effects were analyzed for theFOG from fiber-optic light source spectral width, center wavelength and output power of thesource. At the same time, a comparative analysis was done for several typical structure of theerbium-doped fiber light source to determine a better structure for a fiber-optic light source.Based on the above, several common structure of the erbium-doped fiber source wassimulated, and compare the effects for the various types of erbium-doped fiber light sourcefrom the fiber length, pump power and other parameters on the center wavelength and outputpower. And a high flexibility and better tunability dual-stage erbium-doped fiber source wasproposed. Based on simulation analysis and conclusions, a erbium-doped fiber light sourcewas designed, including the pump drive circuit design and optical design which were tested.Finally, the erbium-doped fiber source which was designed in this article was tested, andultimately a spectral width≥25nm wavelength stability of3ppm, the output power≥of3mWwas obtained. The parameters of the erbium-doped fiber source performance can meet thegeneral fiber optic gyro light requirements. It has reference value for further study ofhigh-precision erbium-doped fiber f light sources.
