With the development of modern science and technology progress continuously, the photoelectric passive ranging technology will be applied widely. But the measurement system of the domestic ranging technology application is complex and huge, the range accuracy is not satisfactory, the range of measuring objects is limited and the measurement accuracy is influenced by the outside circumstance. So there are many difficulties that the technology is applied in the military domain,it is difficult to achieve solo combat.For this situation, we propose a new type of passive ranging project, namely two-point passive optical ranging technology. In this paper, from the basic principle of two-point optical passive ranging technology, the overall design project of two-point passive optical ranging technology is elaborated, and the illumination optical system, the zoom optical system and the telescope are simulated by using Zemax software. On this basis, combined with specific technical indexes in this task, the imaging detector selection and the subsequent image processing are discussed. Finally the ranging error formula are deduced theoretically, the errors of the different t ranging point are calculated. Reaching the range distance from lkm to10km, the relative errors are from0.10m to10.00m,while higher range accuracy, the problem of the unknown measured target size is solved when ranging, the purpose of passive ranging is reached without achieving the measured target size.In recent years, people pay more and more attention to passive ranging technology research and application, great achievements are made in this field. The measuring precision and level of passive ranging technology have been significantly improved. In such circumstances,two-point passive optical ranging technology will be more rapid developed in the near future.
