In recent years, food safety problems of China come on end. Food safety hassomething to do with national welfare and the people’s livelihood, and mass mediahas great impact on the monitoring of social problems, so, in terms of food safetyreports, what the influence of food safety information reported by mass media onaudience? How is the monitoring effect on society? In the face of these questions,with theories and methods of related subjects: communication, sociology, socialpsychology, statistics and so on, this thesis mainly employs two empirical researchmethods: content analysis and questionnaire to analyze them systematically and indepth.Findings: First, in food safety reports, there are indeed such problems: the reportthemehas tendentiousness, the discursive power of government is big, the emphasis isunilateral; Second, the pseudo-environments created by mass media influenceaudiences’perception of reality to a certain extent. Audiences doubt mass media to acertain extent. The agenda of audiences has something to do with that of media.Audiences’ different contacting time with news has relationship with their differentconception of the role of mass media in food safety. Third, audiences with differentcharacteristics have certain preferences for food safety reports. Audiences’ differentcharacteristics have no remarkable influence on their preference of the most importantfood safety reports. The degree of audiences’ attention to different food safety reportsis different to a certain extent. Audiences’ contacting time with media has noremarkable influence on audiences’perception of actual situation of food safety.Audiences’ contacting time with news has influence on audiences’perception of actualsituation of food safety to a certain extent. Forth, audiences’ worrying about food safety has something to do with the inefficiency of administrative departments.
