Wireless sensor network is a strongly self-organized wireless mobile networkwith no fixed structure. Because of its widespread applications in areas like military, environment protection, agriculture and security monitoring, it has become one of thepopular research focuses. One important feature of wireless sensor network is its limited node energy. Therefore, a key question in studying network layer routing protocol is how to reduceenergy consumption of sensor nodes, enhance life cycle of the sensor network andensure that data packets can be successfully communicated.Research and innovation done by this paper were mainly presented as follows:The paper analyzed the structure and technical features of wireless sensornetwork and summarized the design requirements of routing protocol for the wirelesssensor network.By classification and comparison of different current network layer routingprotocols for wireless sensor network, the paper identified advantages anddisadvantages of each routing protocol.Targeting the typical problem of blind detour and triangular detour that mayarise in the event of a routing void in the GPSR protocol based on the geographicrouting protocol, the paper combined the GAF clustering algorithm and the greedyrouting algorithm of the GPSR protocol, thus proposing a new grid by grid statelessrouting (GBGSR) based on geographic information. The paper used NS-2simulation software, conducted simulation experiments onGPSR protocol and GBGSR protocol separately and chose multiple parameters suchas average node energy consumption, success rate of packet transmission and averageend-to-end delay as evaluation criteria. Simulation experiments were also conducedon the GBGSR protocol in different grid width and node number, so as to analyze theinfluence of different node density on GBGSR protocol. The results have showed that, compared to GPSR protocol, GBGSR protocol improves significantly on the successrate of data packet transmission, average node energy consumption and enhance lifecycle of the network.
