WiththelaunchoftheBeijing-Tianjinintercity high-speed railprojectin2005, China hails a new aera of thehigh-speed railway. As planned by the Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of China,forty-two passenger railway lines with atotal mileage of13,000kmare expected to be completed by the end of2012, including5000km of railways with a maximum speed of250km/hour and8000km with350km/hour. The construction of the high-speed railsystem in China is expanding rapidly with great achievements. For instance, the rail line connecting Beijing and Shanghai is one of the busiest railways in China. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed passengerrailway enhances the transportation capacity for passengers, improves the logistical system and reduces the transportation cost. The designed continuous operating speed is350km/hour for this rail line, the world’s longest high-speed line ever constructed in a single phase. It has1318km dual tracks with21stations, from Beijing South Station to Shanghai Hongqiao Station. Beijing-Shanghai railway linkstwo major economic zones in China:Bohai Economic Rim and the Yangtze River Delta. It passes through a large area in China, including four provinces and threedirect-controlled municipalities. This area is6.5%of the total land area of China, with a quarter of the China’s population and40%domestic GDP.Thus, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail line plays an important role in such an area where the economy develops rapidly and where there is a high demand of transportation convenience. In the background of the high-speed rail transportation in China, the study of the wireless communication traffic onboard the China Railways CRH trains is of great importance. The well-sealed CRH train cabin traveling with a high speed, however, plays a negative role in the onboard communication quality and reliability. Therefore, the improvement of the quality of communication network service for high speed transportation is critical. In this research, the wireless network schemesfor moving targets at a high speed are studied. Customized wirelessnetwork coverage for railways and its optimization arealso discussed for the purpose of improvingthe communication quality of service.
