Compared to the conventional optical fibers Highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HNL-PCF) has many unique optical properties. Because of Its good application and bright future in the field of optical communication systems and all-optical networks, HNL-PCF becomes a hot research point of relevant academic and application. This dissertation simulates and calculates optical parameters of HNL-PCF including of the nonlinear coefficient, dispersion and loss with the relevant theoretical models and obtains the relationship between structural parameters and optical properties of HNL-PCF. On the other hand, In this dissertation the generation of supercontinuum spectrum by using HNL-PCF is simulated and calculated, and the application of HNL-PCF in optical communication systems is explored. By rational design and optimization of structural parameters of the HNL-PCF we can control their optical properties effectively. This conclusion will provide a theoretical basis for the design and preparation of the optical component with high performance, high stability and reliability and as well as a good idea for further research work. The main research contents include:1. The introduction of photonic crystals and photonic crystals fiber.2. The description of HNL-PCF’s basic structure and the corresponding structural parameters. The optical properties icluding the nonlinear coefficient, dispersion and loss are discoursed and their theoretical formulas are derivated.3. The introduction of relevant basic theoretical approach and its derivation which is used for the the research and analysis of the HNL-PCF’s optical properties.4. The optical properties of HNL-PCF including of the nonlinear coefficient, dispersion and loss are numerical analysed by using the professional optical software RSoft which is based on a varity of theoretical methods. By analyzing the result, the relationship between structural parameters and optical properties is obtained.5. The characteristics of the supercontinuum spectrum are simulated with the ues of split-step fourier transform method for caltulating of the propagation equation in the HNL-PCF of input optical pulse. The relationship between the flatness and bandwidth of the generated. continuous spectrum and such parameters as dispersion and the conditions of the pump is obtained. This conclusion will provide a theoretical basis and a new idea for the design and preparation of the optical component with high performance, high stability and reliability.
