To accommodate the ever-increasing internet requirements and the diversifiedtechnology development, the scale of optical network becomes larger and shows atendency of multi-domain scenario for good management and maintenance. Inconsideration of confidentiality and safety requirement, domains do not share domaininformation with each other, resulting topology and resource information unreachablebetween domains. These defects bring great challenge when establishing inter-domainoptical path in multi-domain scenario. Path Computation Element (PCE) proposed byIETF has strong computation capability and cooperation ability with each otherthrough PCE Communication Protocol when establishing inter-domain path. Toenhance the inter-domain path processing power of GMPLS based optical network,PCE can be deployed as the computation functional entity of the control layer.Combined with PCE related theories, this paper focuses on the study of hierarchicalPCE based inter-domain path establishment method in Wavelength Switched OpticalNetworks.First of all in the introduction of content, this article introduces the developmenttrend of optical network and its challenges in present. Then the function of the PCE isbriefly introduced.In the second part, the article described the PCE in detail. The basic PCE structure isfirstly introduced, then the PCE network models and PCE communications protocol. Inthe following section, the article analyzes the inter-domain path computation models,especially the BRPC algorithm and hierarchical PCE model, which provides theacademic basis for following research.The third part is the core part of the article. It firstly introduces the challenges whenestablishing inter-domain path in multi-domain optical network, then after thedescription of traditional sequential establishment method, a parallel hierarchical PCEbased inter-domain path establishment solution (pH-PCE) is proposed. The articledetails the pH-PCE implementation procedure by structure and flow chart. Through theexperimental simulations, the network performances of this scheme are verified. Based on the research of previous works, part4made a further study and proposed akind of failure treatment scheme when establishing inter-domain path. This schemecompletes the end-to-end path establishment with the method of local remedy whenpath establishment failure occurs, which can reduce the loss of network resources.Finally, the contents of this paper are concluded, and the problems to be furtherimproved are also described.This paper mainly studies the lightpath establishment schemes in multi-domainoptical networks. The contribution includes two aspects. The first aspect is theproposed parallel path establishment model in pH-PCE solution, which largelydecreases the path setup delay and blocking probability. The second aspect is a failuretreatment scheme proposed for pH-PCE solution. These two works largely enhance thePCE power when processing inter-domain optical path.
