With self-emission, fast response, ultra-thin, less power consumption, wide viewingangle, broad working temperature range and many other advantages, organiclight-emitting device (OLED) is recognized as the most competitive third-generationdisplay technology, which is of great market potential. Nowadays, OLED technologyhas been in practical application and its performance superiority in small size use makesit a big competition to liquid crystal display (LCD). Compared to LCD, OLED is still inthe initial stage of industrialization that costs high and market application far frommature. So one of the important tasks for the OLED industry is to place emphasis on theapplication research, giving full play to the strengths and avoiding the limitations, toenhance the overall competitiveness of the OLED end products and further develop theOLED market.Two passive matrix OLED (PMOLED) production lines have been built in ourcountry. To develop PMOLED market meets the demand of the industry, and also isgood reference and accumulation for further active matrix OLED (AMOLED)application research. According to the market survey, MP3, small-size digital photoframe and other electronics with simple video function would be more popular amongconsumers, however, generally the display screens of these products do not have thevideo signal input interface. To help the PMOLED screen marketing of Chengdu ChongOLED (CCO) Company and also contribute to the development of OLED industry forour country, CCO company proposes a project plan to develop OLED video player.The key point of developing OLED video player is to combine the characteristics ofOLED to realize downloading, storage, reading of video images and to solve displaydriver problem. The paper analyses the system design structure, the selection of the keycomponent, the function of implementation of the system, and focuses on the systemimplementation process: MCU (Micro Controller Unit) as the controller,whitchdownloads videos from the USB(universal serial bus) interface of the computer, readsand writes videos from flash, transfers videos via8080port, the driver circuit of thePMOLED display and the codes of each software module. Finally, by assembly the sample, the system hardware and software design is verified.Video images play, static play, automatically loop play, user function selection,automatic power-saving screen saver, etc. are fully considered in the design plan, andalso introduce how to select common, low-cost key components to make the designrealized. So the design principles and technical solutions are of strong applicability indeveloping small-size digital photo frame, MP3(moving picture expert group audiolayer Ⅲ)and other products with video function, and can be popularized to PMOLEDscreens with other size.
