Array signal processing is an important branch of the modern signal processing, and its applications include communication, radar, radio astronomy, sonar and so on. It is to use one group of antenna array elements which are arranged by a certain way to sample the space signals and to use the sampling data to get the information of the space signals. At the same time it suppresses the interference and noise. DOA estimation is an important component of array signal processing, also known as spatial spectrum estimation, and has been widely developed over the past thirty years. The main content in this paper is to solve the definite problems of DOA estimating via the pretreatments or the modified algorithms which are based on traditional DOA estimating algorithms, such as MUSIC, ESPRIT and so on. The main contributions in this paper are illustrated as follows:Firstly, the research background and the signification of the subject, the development and actuality of the research are introduced. At the same time, the array basic model of the narrow-band signals is proposed, relativity between signals is interpreted and the model of mixed signals is built. Secondly, the traditional DOA estimation algorithms about uncorrelated signals and coherent signals which are the foundation of the main content in this paper are proposed. Thirdly, in some specific aspects of DOA estimation, such as:estimating DOA of coherent signals fast, Estimating2-D DOA via ULA assisted by antenna elements and reducing the amount of antenna elements via separating uncorrelated signals and coherent signals, the pretreatments or the modified algorithms are presented in this paper, then the algorithms are verified through particular theoretical analysis and simulation. Fourthly a robust digital beamforming algorithm is presented in another important component of array signal processing-adaptive digital beamforming and the validity and performance of the algorithm are validated by simulation in this paper. At last, the work of the whole dissertation is summarized and the research direction of future is determined.
