With the progress of science and technology and the improvement of our living standard, the electronic products become more and more important to our daily life. At present, Smartphone and iPad become the new darling of businesses. Smartphone and iPad are networklizing, personalizing and have plentiful applications, so they are attracted to young people. For example, video application is one of the attractive applications. The core technology of video application is video compression, and we need to reduce the bit rate as much as possible. Now, H.264is one of the most widely used video compression standard. This article based on H.264video compression standard focuses on improving intra prediction algorithm, and the specific work is as follows:Firstly, study the intra prediction algorithm of chrominance components U and V, and improve their predictive algorithm. The improved method applied to cif format video and qcif format video indicates that itself can reduce bit rate. Because the chrominance components U and V make up relatively small proportion of bit stream, the lower percentage is relatively small.Secondly, study the intra prediction algorithm of16×16macroblock for luminance component, and improve their predictive algorithm. The method applied to cif format video and qcif format video indicates that itself can reduce bit rate.Thirdly, study the intra prediction algorithm of4×4sub-block for luminance component, and improve their predictive algorithm. The method applied to cif format video and qcif format video indicates that itself can significantly reduce bit rate. This paper also integrates the three aspect research together, and experimental result indicates the improved method can significantly reduces bit rate but not significantly decreasing the signal to noise ratio of luminance component Y and chrominance components U and V.
