In recent years, J2EE technology plays an increasingly important role in the domain ofenterprise information systems. In spite of the common problem of long development timeand high cost of J2EE projects, more and more companies have a tendency to move theirinformation systems to J2EE applications. The project involved in this thesis,Reengineeringof Space Intelligence System, which aims at providing a customized J2EE-based enterprisespace resources management system to Societe Generale to replace the legacy systemGespace is a result of this tendency.Starting with an introduction of the conception of software reengineering and J2EE-basedJBoss Seam Web Application Framework, this thesis presents their features and advantagesover their concurrent technologies. After a study on the legacy system Gespace, it producesthe functional specifications and DataBase schema of the target system Space Intelligence byinheriting some reusable assets from the legacy system with the notation of reengineering andthen rapidly implements the system with JBoss Seam Framework which supports Rapid WebApplication Development. The target system realizes the key functions of Gespace and meetssome new requirements proposed by Societe Generale. An analysis of the effort applied andthe development time of this project with COCOMO shows that this solution whichcombinates the conception of software reengineering and JBoss Seam Framework cansignificantly improve the efficiency of a development of J2EE-based migration project. It is asolution to help enterprises remarkably reduce costs and gain competitive advantage byshortening the development time and by bringing products to market more quickly.
