With the rapid development of the Internet and multimedia technologies. The video image information is becoming more and more richer, and gradually become a major component in the network transmission. The video image contains information larger than voice or text message. Therefore, how the video image information easier to people to understand in a form acceptable to describe the expression of a more concise manner, and how to more rapid and accurate transmission of video image information is a hot topic in current research.This paper focus on researching the issue of video compression based on the wavelets transform theory. First, Using analysis, comparison of thinking research methods to the existing video compression algorithms to a comprehensive and detailed in-depth analysis and research, and point out some problems in the existing research, and the basic idea of the video image compression research, and put forward the corresponding improvement program, in order to optimize the effect of the video image compression. Secondly, Based on the wavelet transform theory and the existing video compression technology, design a video image compression optimization algorithm, the algorithm to the video image is divided into two parts of the region of interest and the background area, then the region of interest part and the background area part using different programs to compress.The Simulation experiment results validate the feasibility and rationality of the video image compression algorithm, but also the video image compression algorithm with other algorithms.
