Wi-Fi is the most successful wireless local area network (WLAN) system that builds upon the IEEE802.11standards. With the rapid development of Wi-Fi in recent years, infrastructure facilities have been improved. What’s more, the coverage of wireless access points (AP) has already been very wide and the price is cheap. However, users have been worried about its security vulnerability. Users of home and small office networks need access to the highest available security mechanisms, and they need to be able to make simple additions and changes to the connected equipment without access to a technical support group. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Protected Setup offers users incomparable ease of use in setting up small Wi-Fi networks that operate at the highest levels of security available in equipment today-with a simple, almost totally automated setup process that can require as little interaction as the push of a button. Wi-Fi Protected Setup enables typical users who possess little understanding of traditional Wi-Fi configuration and security settings to easily configure new wireless networks, to add new devices and to enable security.In recent years, the performance of embedded microprocessor has been greatly improved. Additionally, embedded technologies combined with WLAN to realize secure wireless communications has become a hot topic of research and application. The focus of this thesis is to research and analysis WPS technology and WPA client—Wpa_supplicant. After analysising the OS-based Wpa_supplicant, we can understand its working principle and then analysis the WPS function in Wpa_supplicant deeply. Moreover, transplanting it to the microcontroller that has limited resources with no OS, and then doing optimization in the software level. At last, make it has WPS feature. Meanwhile, this paper adds WPS technology to a serial to WLAN module and makes it join in the network established by AP through WPS PBC method successfully. And it can achieve a secure network communication. In the end of this paper, we test the WPS Enrollee based on microcontroller from the function and performance aspects, and give the actual test data.
