With the rapid development of computer technology, analysis and design of intelligent control system based on video images of traffic lights has become a hot field of intelligent transportation. In recent years, a variety of vehicle detection methods were presented, and one of these methods which based on video image processing technology has developed rapidly, and is now gradually becoming a hot research topic of intelligent control system of traffic lights, as it has many advantages.This paper first introduces the domestic and international trend and research status of traffic light control system, then presents the development platform and its tools, and basic situation of the origin and development of the traffic lights. After analyses several common traffic signal control systems, the paper presents a kind of intelligent traffic light control system solution based on video image processing technology, and OPENCV is used as development kit and MFC in VS2010as design platform of user interface. The vehicle detection method chooses a vehicle detection method of the Gaussian mixture model based on frame difference method according to carefully analyzing and comparing the currently available vehicle detection methods. Firstly, this method uses a section of real-time video as research object and obtains real-time vehicle video image background through the background subtraction method, then draws the actual detection lines on its background. Secondly, the method isolates foreground image and background image of the moving vehicle target through the original video image gray pre-process and preprocessing for noised, and setting the threshold value for binarization processing. In the end, the method uses the mathematical morphology and the shadow processing, and sets the corresponding virtual-detection line on the foreground according to the actual detection of the lines on the background as reference. Thus this paper designs a statistical algorithm of vehicle flow. In order to facilitate the intelligent control of traffic lights, the paper analyses and presents its model and parameters, realizes the building of the traffic signal timing dynamic adjustment model and designs the solution method, and obtains the relevant time parameters according to related traffic lights time dynamic adjustment model.This intelligent control solution of traffic lights selects STC89C52MCU (Micro Control Unit) as the hardware development board, and each module communicate with each other by nRF905(a kind of RF wireless communication chip). Firstly, the paper analyses working principle of the NRF905, and uses the STC89C52MCU and NRF905RF to realize the transmitting terminal and receiving terminal of the intelligent control of traffic lights. Then this paper makes the overall design and data structure design. Secondly, the paper presents modular design of the traffic lights controller, special vehicle detection station, the main contorller and host computer as well as hardware and software interface. Among them, the paper uses the LM1117-3.3V to its two voltage unified control on the traffic lights controller design, because nRF905voltage is different from entire system voltage. And the paper uses the LM567integrated phase-locked loop decoder chip to compare sound frequency on the special vehicle detection. Finally, this paper summarizes the completed work, analyses the defects of the system, and puts forward the improvement plans.
