The melody modeling technology which is researched in this article is an important branch ofcomputer music technology, its essence is using polynomial functions to construct a model which is basedon emotions for melody, for content-based retrieval, automatic music composition, analysis of the emotion, the model is provided the base.Melody is the basic elements of music, tuning and beat-based, constituted by a particular pitch, duration and volume, but always governed by complex and rigorous rules which provide a foundation onwhich artistic expression can be based. Melody modeling can provide some ideas for research in computermusic. The thesis proposes a new method, namely, polynomial contour notation, to build data model so as todescribe melody. Melodic contour is represented by a curve that can be derived from effective polynomialequations to the pitch values given the note onsets. To represent contour numerically, we consider thecoefficients of the polynomial equation as well as the time limits of the melodic phrase. After a brief reviewof different theoretical, didactic, analytic, and computational approaches to melodic contour, a detailedstep-by-step description is provided of how polynomials can be fitted to melodic phrases, and polynomialcontour can be used as a basis model for the computational processing of melodic information.Music is the art of emotional, contains a rich and deep emotional content. This article draws lessonsfrom the former emotion classification theory, roughly divided the emotions in music into four discretetypes, for every type, we conducted a detailed sample collection, and described a new method forcomputing polynomial contour in detail. Finally, an example detailed description of the process to establishmelody model. After construct the model, we selected the special qualitative examples to validate it fordemonstrating the accuracy and effectiveness of the model. Based on emotion classification, using thepolynomial expression of melodic contour is the innovation of this article. The model can be highly appliednot only because it reduces cost of melody but also it boosts production efficiency. For emotion retrieval, automatic composer and emotion analysis, this model has some practical value.Similarity measurement described in detail in the process of based on emotional retrieval. And tofurther explore the model automatic composer as well as the role of the emotion analysis. This research has a certain theoretical basis and practical value to the study of algorithmic composition and emotion-basedretrieval of music.
