With the rapid industrial development, the continuous complication of industrial production process also force companies to continuously improve the requirements of production process automation and production information integration. In this context, highly reliable distributed control system is widely respected, so control bus develops rapidly in the field of industry.CAN bus is a cost-effective, reliable and stable fieldbus technology; First, the error correction capability of the CAN bus is one important reason for its widespread usage, its use a lot of methods to detect errors such as:bit stuffing error detection. Second, the distributed control of the CAN bus can make some field devices have a certain degree of autonomy, do not need to consider the type of the device signal, and they can communicate with each other. Another application layer protocol CANopen solve the communication problems between the different functions of the CAN device, greatly improving the system compatibility and scalability. In this paper, after in-depth study the communication network of wood processing and production systems, proposed wood processing network control system’s overall design based on CAN bus and CANopen protocol.First, in-depth study of the CAN bus communication theory; on this basis, study the application layer protocol for CAN bus CANopen protocol deeply; understand the detail of the basic protocol CANopen protocol DS301protocol. After this, the slave node hardware design of CANopen, mainly related to control the chip selection, CAN interface circuit design, providing the hardware platform of the system software implementation. Second, build a wood processing network control system’s overall architecture. One CANopen master node as monitoring device is a PC based Windows XP, two CANopen slave nodes as the main control part is based on the ARM7LPC2478and UC/OS-||real-time operating system, and then the logic control part is completed by the FPGA chip. After setting up the environment of Master/Slave, the complete the transplant strong design and implementation of CANopen protocol, and embedded into the master/slave software system. Then, according to the requirements of process control systems of wood, design the the application tasks and data processing of slave station and prepare of the master station monitoring software. And do the CANopen node communications test, analyz and evaluate the system performance. Test results show that the network delay of constructed network control systems based on CANopen is about2~3ms, which meet the requirements of most industrial control.
