There has been an increasing need of the equipment accord with fieldbus protocol day by day because of the rapid development of field bus technology applied in the industrial control. In this paper, we aim at a variety of protocol standards and analyse some popular standards in depth, have investigated the construction and composition of the filedbus devices and the characteristics of the protocol chips. The result of analysis in chip character shows that there are lots of chips for CAN-bus from different companies; Foundation Fieldbus protocol chips are used frequently in chemical process; In discrete Applications, you can find lots of PROFIBUS protocol chips; If you want to upgrade you control system from old control networks, you should use HART protocol; LonWorks protocol chips have all 7 layers of the OSI module, so you can use it in the big networks.You can chose different chips for different control object. Different chips are applied for different production process. Different protocols suit for the same product process is rare. The fieldbus embedded technology provides technology and experience of device application for the system designers.Paper shows the elements and steps of the development and design the field bus intelligent instrument by making ultrasonic liquid level detection instrumentation embed CANopen fieldbus network function. People who want to develop and design field bus device can get actual reference. First, paper study the principle of ultrasonic liquid level detection instrument in depth, and design the structure of hardware and the main program block diagram, gives the circuit of ultrasonic transmitter and receiver, and the diagram of the subroutine. By the process of embedding CANopen slave functionality to the ultrasonic liquid level detection instrumentation, paper gives a detail method to develope the protocol stack software, and designs the OD of ultrasonic liquid level instrumentation with the related development tools and CiA device description profiles. OD bridges the instrumentation application and CANopen communication, is the core of CANopen design.
