LTE which is the most important technology research program of3GPP, has been recognized as the most prospective4G technology in recent years. LTE is based on OFDM and FDMA, with50Mbps Uplink rate and100Mbps Downlink rate. This can optimize cell-edge user performance and enlarge cell capacity. In Europe and America LTE has commenced extensively. And major common carriers in China are also making efforts in LTE programs. In2011, TD-LTE experiments have been operated in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiamen. In2012China is preparing a more extensive trial network in Beijing, Tianjin, and Qingdao. More than20,000nodes will be built in these9cities. Thus TD-LTE is going to be a main trend in Chinese communication sector. This article focuses in the functional test of LTE protocol, analysis in its function and design concept of offline test bench. In the operation of LTE program, part that is modified should be tested before upgrade, in order to insure the stability of the code. The test requires an integrated environment including node, UE, radio frequency. This complex environment can be easily effected by the external disturbance, so the accuracy of test result will be influenced. The offline-test bench aims at exchanging packet and signaling without a real testing environment. Successful offline-test can cut the failure rate in real test, so the testing cost can also be reduced. That is why offline-test has played a more and more magnificent role in LTE.
