The Brillouin fiber lasers(BFL) based on the stimulated Brillouinscattering in the fiber have the advantages of low threshold, high conversionefficiency and extremely narrow bandwidth. Also, multiwavelength laser output isobtained by Brillouin cascading effect. Much attention has been focused on thesingle-mode/multiwavelength BFLs. Thus, the main research has been developed intoit in this paper.Brillouin fiber ring lasers were investigated theoretically and experimentallycombining with the lab’s sub-topics of national973project in this paper.Single-mode/multiwavelength BFLs based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering inthe fiber were made. The main research content and innovations include:(1) A multiwavelength Brillouin fiber ring laser in a reverse-S-shapedconfiguration is studied in experiment, and the coupling ratios in the reverse-S-shapedfiber section are investigated. The ring optics is optimized through changing thecoupling ratios in the reverse-S-shaped fiber section, and the number of wavelengthsis increased without increasing the power of EDFA and pump. Also, the effects of thepump power, fiber length and polarization controller on laser output spectra werestudied. And the output stability is tested.(2) A novel22GHz spaced multi-wavelength Brillouin erbium-doped fiber ringlaser is proposed. And the effects of the pump power, fiber length and polarizationcontroller on laser output spectra were studied. The threshold powers for stokes lineswere measured experimentally with different fiber length. Also, the output stabilityis tested.(3) A novel multi-wavelength Brillouin erbium-doped fiber ring laser in afeedback configuration was presented. The effects of the pump power, fiber lengthand polarization controller on laser output spectra were studied. And the thresholdpowers for stokes lines were measured experimentally with different fiber length.Also, the output stability is tested.(4) A single-mode Brillouin fiber ring laser was investigated experimentally. The effects of the pump power, fiber length on laser output spectra were studied withEDFA in ring or not. And the effects of the EDFA on the laser were analyzed. Thethreshold power was measured in experiment with EDFA in ring or not. The effectsand advantages of EDFA in ring were investigated. Finally, the output stability istested.
