The Young Companion was established in1926and was one of the most influential media for Chinese people all over the world. It covered information concerning social development, politics, culture, art, drama, film and attractions in China. Regarded as "Encyclopedias of1930s’Shanghai", its readers covered a wide range of different stratums included workers, capitalists, teachers, students, celebrities, townsfolk and so on. Indubitably The Young Companion provides us with abundant materials for research on modern history.This study is on intercultural communication in The Young Companion. Hoping to get an all-around review. This study takes The Young Companion for1926to1945as samples. Literature analysis and historical quantitative analysis are adopted in this study.The first section describes the founding history of The Young Companion pictorial, including its founder background, founder process, as well as its final publication time. The formation of mass media’s personality and style is a complex phenomenon, its analysis need sufficiently rich basis of relevant background information. The second section details The Young Companion from the principles of the compile and pictorial content. The third section explores the pictorial style of The Young Companion. The forth section gives the revelation of The Young Companion. Based on the study of the previous paragraph, the pictorial’s purposes are linked to today’s press, leading to the inspiration and thinking:The Young Companion as a successful commercial pictorial, which is profit-oriented, rather than only meeting the readers.
