With further development of electronic computer science and network technology, telecom operators had higher requirements for fast-forward detection capability ofnetwork equipment. The running interface on Ethernet, like CPOS, E1T1, ATM, all ofthem can use fast-forward detection which provided by physical layer to satisfy somerequirements for fast switching. Then, for Ethernet, when the transmission of signalbetween two devices interrupted, the interface of equipment still “UP”, because thesignals of equipment are normal. So the protocol which base on physical layer, likeOSPF, ISIS, MPLS, VRRP, can only provide seconds grade of fast-forward detectioncapability in their fastest speed. In this situation, we can’t satisfy the specialrequirements for fast-forward detection. In this paper, we do research about BFD fast-forward detection function on routerof telecommunication level, show the idea and methods based on dual-coreBFD.Compared with “Hello” mechanism, realizing a light loading, short duration, andreduce the detection speed to millisecond level. This design makes good scalability andwider applicability for BFD. In process of implementation, we use OAM-CPU toseparate the establishment of BFD session and the transmission of data. In themeanwhile, we design the testing method and technology based on Dual-Core BFD.After several rounds of testing, system approach stable, the risk of close into code isgreatly reduced. This selection is based on the company’s software platform named COMWAREand use C language for coding, all of testing work base on the router oftelecommunication level in the company named SR8800. Because of this design use thedifferent CPU separate the establishment of BFD session and the transmission of datathe research data, so it’s greatly improves the fast-forward detection rate and noinfluences of sending and receiving data packets. At present, the purpose of dissertation is applied on telecommunication level routers of the company and obtainperfect results.
