With the socio-economic development, the number of cars increased dramatically.Inorder to increase road capacity and traffic safety, reduce congestion and pollution, and tostrengthen the contact between vehicles, roads and users, to make the transport services andmanagement become intelligent, to make traffic flowintelligent be in the beststate. IntelligentTransportation Systems (ITS) becomes the focus of development. Intelligent videosurveillance system which is used for acquiring the road vehicle information from the videoimage is an important and basic part of the intelligent transportation system. Through theerection of distributed intelligentmonitoring devices, the video signal in the front-end will beanalyzed automatically. the valuable information (such as speed, traffic flow rate,vehicle type, road density, traffic accidents) will be transported over the network to thetraffic control center, which use the information for scheduling and decision-making.Therefore, based on video images of road vehicle detection and tracking in embedded systemshas important research and practical value.In this paper, video vehicle detection-tracking embedded system based onTMS320DM6446is designed. Propose a simple and effective vehicle detection&trackingalgorithm, including the image preprocessing algorithm, the adaptive background updatingalgorithm, motion regions detection algorithm based on the integration of the edge detectionand the optimal threshold, the improved rapid method of identifying the connected regions,and the tracking algorithm based on multi-feature. Meanwhile, the hardware and software ofDM6446platform and development methods are introduced. Describes how tobuild the ARM-side application, describes how to transplant and optimize the codes in thisplatform. Finally, the actual running through the DM6446platform shows that the system caneffectively detect and track with high accuracy and robustness. Meanwhile, it has practicalsignificance, such as reducing costs, easy to deploy, effectively monitoringand scheduling of road vehicles. The methods and ideas of this system also can be used by inother areas, such as the detection of security, public safety, crowd.
