With the popularity of multimedia communication and video coding technology and therapid development in various video applications, a lot of video coding standards haveappeared. The demand of conversion between different video formats are rising as a variety ofvideo coding standards are widely used. The video transcoder can just meet the demand. Itconverts a compressed format video stream to another format. Video transcoding contains twomeanings: conversion between the same video coding standards and conversion betweendifferent video coding standards. The key of video transcoding technology research is usinginput compressed video stream encoding information and statistical characteristics toaccelerate and optimize video transcoding process, so as to achieve the best quality and theunited of complexity in different transcoding application environment and restrictions.I study efficient transcoding technology based on H.264standard based on video codingtheory and video transcoding techniques, and focus on researching the technology andrealization of conversion between the H.264and ASF format, and I also put forward thedirection of improvement. The main works in this thesis are as follow:Firstly, introducing the current situation, basic framework, key technology of the videotranscoding technology research. this thesis introduces the video transcoding system structure,and makes detailed analysis in bit rate transcoding, spatial resolution frame rate transcodingand mixed transcoding etc. this thesis also introduces the research in the fast mode decisionalgorithm, related motion vector reconstruction method and video coding rate control are alsoanalyzed.Secondly, introducing the H.264video format and ASF format, and analyzing thepackage of H.264video, the conversion of ASF video format technology and practicalsignificance. In order to design the transcoding software, this thesis also shows the details ofthe MKV video format package Filter and the H.264video decoder Filter.Finally, in order to realize the video transcoding from the video based on H.264compression to ASF format, this thesis have designed the transcoding software system named“X2ASF”by using the DirectShow technology. This thesis shows details of the design ideas,structures and the analysis of test data of all functions of this transcoding software system, and proves the feasibility of this system by the experimental results. The system convertsthe.MKV format (based on H.264coding) to ASF format. Considering ASF is one of thecurrent mainstream network video stream formats, this system can also realize network push,and plays the converted video file in real-time, and this is also detailed introduced in thisthesis.
