The research object of this study is the tree pipe network for water delivery. Based on therelative theories, methods and the engineering practice at home and abroad, together with thegenetic algorithm optimization theory, taking Matlab as the optimized programming tool, wechoose the appropriate toolbox through comparison analysis of relative toolboxes andoptimize the lay out and diameter of tree pipe network synchronously. The synchronousoptimal model, based on genetic algorithm and minimum spanning tree, was used in tree pipenetwork for water delivery. Furthermore, we conduct a study on the combination of VB,Matlab and AutoCAD as well as their visual components, here are the conclusions:(1) It is more convenient to invoke the concerning toolboxes of Matlab while in theprocess of the optimization. Compared to the three most common used toolboxes in Matlab,this paper chose the genetic algorithm toolbox—GATBX—which comes from SheffieldUniversity as the tool to optimize the pipe network’s layout and diameter synchronously.(2) Combining the genetic algorithm with the minimum spanning tree algorithm, a treeirrigation pipe network model was built incorporating engineering experience. Through thecomparative analysis among different interface techniques, make use of the COM moduletechnique, combinative Visual Basic, MATLAB, and AutoCAD to develop the optimalsoftware on the low-pressure tree irrigation pipe network based on genetic algorithm. Realizethe optimization between lay out and diameter synchronously without installing Matlab incomputers, and export the optimal layout diagrams at the mean time, bring about theintegration and visualization between optimum program and software.(3) The optimal design of loop-type pipe net works based on adaptive genetic algorithmsand the programming tools such as VB and ACCESS, we made an optimal system ofloop-style pipe networks. Realized the mathematic equation turn to a programming style andthe visible operating surfaces, which contributes to higher work efficiency and easier tohandle and extend.
