Research On Contour-based Object Recognition Algorithm

With the rapid development of multimedia technology, computer, communications technology and of Internet network, image multimedia information sources are expanding continually, digital image recognition technology has been used widely and over all aspects of life. It plays a crucial role in our everyday life, economic development, and national security. Therefore, carrying out recognition research in image target is of great significance, the research achievement has a very broad application prospects. Image feature extraction and description is the key technology of image object recognition, the effect of target recognition will be affected directly by the feature extraction results. In image retrieval system, the quality feature description algorithm of the targets will directly affect the image retrieval accuracy. Whereas all these mentioned, this paper carried out deep research into the algorithms of image feature extraction and feature description, and combined with practical application, we focus mainly on studies of object recognition based on contour features.Firstly, this paper study the algorithm of image feature extraction and description in image recognition system systematically, and focus on the shape of the feature extraction. Based on the study of polar Fourier descriptors and invariant moments, a shape feature description algorithms is proposed combining moment features with Fourier descriptor, considering the advantages and disadvantages of the two algorithms. Experiments show that the algorithm can not only reduce the computational complexity, and overcome the limitations of traditional Fourier descriptors, it has a good performance of the object feature extraction. This article also with software development platform, designed and implemented based on the shape feature image retrieval system, details the function of each module, validate and implement a Fourier descriptor based image retrieval algorithm for MPEG-7image database with good search results, combined with the footwear image retrieval example is given. With the development platform of machine vision library OpenCV, we design and implement a simple image retrieval system based on shape feature, which has a good image retrieval effects for MPEG-7database.
