Underground mining is increasingly high degree of intelligence and moderniza-tion. Environmental safety monitoring has been attached. It establishs a more secure production environment, both to ensure production efficiency and reduce accidents. Therefore, the establishment of a complete set of underground long-distance wireless communication system will play an important role in the underground environmental monitoring and safety in production.Based on the high cost of cable communication system in the existing mine, functional limitations, and inconvenient to carry, this paper proposes the design program of a underground long-distance communication system based on ZigBee technology. Portable ZigBee network nodes are according to the characteristics of ZigBee technology for its low power, short-range, low-rate, etc. The combination of wired system is installed in the underground mine, and carry out underground long-distance wireless communication, and monitor of a wide range of environmental parameters. By master the real-time production environment parameters, there are provided security guarantees for underground working of production, to further improve the efficiency ofunderground production.In this paper, the main research contents and working are as follows:(1)This paper introduces the development of ZigBee technology in the mine, detailed performance and characteristics of the ZigBee technology, and the advantage of control and sensing. ZigBee technology can be applied to other wireless communication such as GPRS coverage than mine. This paper analyzed of the type of network topology, and the type of node funcations, and network address allocation mechanism, and routing protocols thinking and working mechanisms of ZigBee protocol layer. On this basis, based on a simplified algorithm for AODV routing algorithm AODVjr, and then embedded in Cluster-Tree algorithm to form a combined routing algorithm ZBR. And compared and analyzed with nodes joining, and data communication process. The results show that ZBR algorithm can select the communication path of the fewer number of hops to reduce the communication delay, and provide a realistic monitoring of data protection in the underground environment. (2)Based on ZigBee communication systems and embedded design principles. It can increase distance direct communication between nodes by RF chips and distance expansion of the chips. Routing nodes can expand network coverage by multi-hop networking. This paper given the network pilot program, and designing network nodes hardware circuit and completed circuit production, and testing the hardware system to ensure stable operation.(3)Its tests star network and tree network by making software development on hardware platform. The experimental results show that ZigBee communication technology to mine the long-distance communication is an ideal choice. The end of this paper summarized the content and results, and also proposed areas for improve-ments and further research directions.
