We report upon the development of a320GHz sub-harmonic mixer using planar Schottky diodes. In this thesis, three diodes are compared, we select the TSC-AP-2020as the mixer diode. The device incorporates anti-parallel pair of planar Schottky diodes mounted onto a quartzbased circuit.A lot of researchers focus on the benefits of subharmonic mixers in the sub-mm wavelength range. In order to extend the advantages of2nd harmonic mixers with respect to local oscillator requirements, the thesis discussed higher order subharmonic mixers. The antiparallel Schottky diode pair was used in this thesis for downconverting a320GHz signal by mixing with the harmonic of the local oscillator.Several structures are designed in this thesis, based on the structure analysis and optimization, we finally determined two structures, the analysis of the two structures are given in detailed.Anti-parallel diode realize the even times frequencies of the local oscillator frequency, the2nd harmonic power needs to be recycled, so it is necessary to design a suitable filter. In order to simplify the circuit, we used al/4wavelength side filter instead of the high and low impedance filter. The high frequency field simulation software Ansoft HFSS and microwave circuit simulation software ADS are used in this thesis for designing mixer circuit, electromagnetic simulation and circuit optimization. The circuit simulations predict a conversion loss of around20dB. Simulation results are presented to show the achievable performance and limitations of higher order subharmonical mixing.
