Handsets, especially mobile phones, are being used by many people. What’s more, in consideration of the promotion of lifelong learning and ubiquitous learning, unfair allocation of educational resources, digital divide, and the contradictory between working and learning, researchers pay more attention to the educational value of handsets.It has some study at home and abroad as its base, and goes on the further study on handsets being used in education from the aspects of practice. Meanwhile, Based on the literature review of correlational research in domestic and abroad, this paper makes further research about the application of mobile phone in education from the angle of practice. Finally, this paper summarized the reading characteristics based on the handsets, then provides guidance, and improves the availability of application of handsets which has rised to the theoretical level.By applying literature, it comes to that using SMS, MMS, and mobile internet in education is feasible and essential. It points out that information is growing exponentially, and people have the sharp demand for information but accessing to information is quite limited,and some information cann.’t be used fully, so finding a way which can comes over the limit of time and space is necessary. The features such as widespread and easy to carry, make mobile phones being used in education possible.It establishes a model of SMS and MMS being used in education:before class, teachers send information about time, class number, content etc, and students sent short messages to ask any thing,such taking off; in class, teachers send short messages that we name them "synchronization micro-broadcasting SMS", and student may question by SMS. After class, teachers summing up knowledge, and send them to student by MMS, and student can interact with teacher and other students by SMS or MMS. By action research method, combined with questionnaire method and interviewing method, it points out that the best state of course sends3-5SMS which condenses the main content of teaching, and1item MMS which covers important knowledge.Through questionnaire method, it surveys college students online behaviors with mobile phones. The results show that the college students’motives of online with mobile phones are aimless, short time and high frequency. Compared to online with computer, college students’information retrieval behaviors and interbehaviors with mobile phones have some changes, but they are influenced by interbehaviors with computers, the research on reading based on handsets follows three aspects:reading rate, reading span, and reading depth. Through correlation analysis and test of differerce, it proves that media can influence people’s reading behaviors. what’s more, environment, the material properties, and the screen of size can exercise influence over readers’ behaviors in degrees. Considering the features and problems in reading based on handsets, some advices are taken:training for handset-based reading, reading material for sound design etc.
