With the developments of computer network and multimedia technology, video has become an important part of the network information, the video information is large and complex,but it is composed by frame essentially. Browse and retrieve video information efficiently, the first step is to extract its key frames. Based on this requirement of video information,the key frame extraction system of video information was analyzed and discussed on this paper.The main research work and results contain the following areas:(1) analyze the problems need to be solved in the key frame extraction system in detail, then establish the overall goal of the system based on this requirement,further more build and design the overall framework of key frame extraction system,the system is divided into video play,shot boundary detection and key frame extraction three parts.(2) in the video play part of system, design and realize the opening,play,pause and stop of video files on the computer, set the speed of video,frame counter, circulate play and full screen play.(3) in the shot boundary detection part of system, realize the division of shots mainly, design get the number of frames,extract the feature of frame picture,the conversion of feature,calculate D-value between frames,calculate threshold value,extraction of boundary frames and the show of boundary frames module algorithm,then achieve the functions by encoding.(4) in the key frame extraction part of system, realize extraction of key frames in shots by the mothed based on the extent, design extraction of middle frame in the shot,conversion from RGB model to HSV model,calculation the similarity,extraction of candidate key frames,edge detection remove redundance and show the key frames module algorithm,then achieve the functions by encoding.
