Research And Implementation Of The IP Geolocation Technology

By the end of December,2011, China has had more than500million Internet users. Facing the rapid expansion of the number of users, it is very important to distinguish the source of the user in many Internet applications. Regional, education and interest are all the differences between Internet users. IP Geolocation can help the Internet website provide more regional related services, to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.Based on thorough analysis and research of the existing IP Geolocation technology, combining the enterprise’s actual situation, the anther designed a new IP Geolocation scheme based on network measurement, in order to build high accuracy IP databases which can the automatic update.The author’s main work includes the following aspects:(1) Take HTTP rather than ICMP as measure protocol. It is more effective for HTTP since most ICMP packet may be screened by web servers.(2) Take well-chosen public web servers with known geographic locations as measure points, in order to reduce the difficulty of the system deployment(3) Put the measurement service embedded in web pages, to solve the difficult of measuring service deployment.(4) Introduce methods to deduce more IP locations from known IP locations, such as the similarity of the network, Internet browser Cookie and voting mechanism.Based on the results of these studies, the author designed an IP Ceolocation system, and tested the system performance to prove the effectiveness of the locating scheme.
