With the popularity of the Internet and the rapid development of network technology, the mode of passing message between people,and equipment is also more diverse, nowadays people can use different platforms to pass instant or Non-instant message. Among them, the IM (Instant Messaging) system as an Internet-based messaging transmission,it is widely used by the majority of Internet users because of the feature of a low cost, easy to operate, instant.Available from the first instant messaging software in 1996 ICQ (I the seek you) the maket of instant messaging has been attached great importance by the industry’s enterprises, including Microsoft, Yahoo, Tencent and many other IT companies have developed their own IM products and formed their large user groups, thereby forming a multi-platform operate as separate businesses competing in the market. For the consideration of the instant messaging platform business model that mainstream IM products like Microsoft’s MSN, Yahoo, Yahoo’s Messenger, Tencent’s QQ, Netease’s Netease bubble such as the functionality provided and the transport protocol and message formats different messaging is limited to between users within their respective platforms, the issue is not only to people’s daily communication has brought great inconvenience, but also has seriously hampered the healthy development of the instant messaging system.To address the above issues, the main purpose of this thesis is to in-depth analysis all major instant messaging system, the mechanism and key communications technologies, on this basis, the study of heterogeneous instant messaging system to achieve mutual communication techniques, and use of XMPP basic protocol design, develop a support interconnection between MSN, Yahoo, multi-platform instant messaging system, the initial messaging between heterogeneous instant messaging system. The main contents include:(1) Instant messaging system technology and development in the world;(2) XMPP protocol-related technology research and development methods;(3) Cross-platform based on XMPP instant messaging system design and implementation; (4) Testing and results verification.The instant messaging system, mutual communication problems is a challenging work, due to limited time and their own level, the thesis work, there are still many inadequacies, the author will be continuous improvement in the subsequent course of the study.
