With the development of mobile internet, PS domain in the communication system is playing more and more important role. Communication network, developed from 2G where there were only CS domain, to 3G where PS and CS domain coexisted, is entering new 4G era where all services transmit in PS domain. How to guarantee the quality of traditional and non-traditional services, and raise the operating efficiency of the network, has become the main focus in network evolution.The article first analyzes the background and the present development of PS domain, summing up the technical characteristics and the merits through comparison between GPRS and the framework of LTE and its corn technology. Based on the WLAN platform, the article analyzes the communication mechanism and characteristics of two typical data services, that is, instant messaging characterized by MSN and real-time video communication characterized by VoIP, pointing out the huge impact on PS domain network by heartbeat mechanism and burst of data transmission. For heartbeat’s impact on network, the article provides two possible solutions base on DPI. Then the article discusses the admission control algorithm and packet scheduling algorithm. For burst of data transmission problem, the article offers improved admission control and packet scheduling algorithm, and provides theoretical analysis and emulation about its performance.
