Because of the impact of economic pattern, the developments of GSM network are unbalanced in China. In the developed coastal area, the mobile network construction has transited to optimize GSM network and configure it from the users’view. The key job of GSM network optimization in the eastern area is the smooth transition to 3G/4G. In the western inland cities, the network construction started later. Because of its economic situation and particular geographic environment, recently the core job on mobile network is still focusing on network coverage and reasonable network planning. With the influence of social factors, the radio network optimization is not the same between different telephone traffic density areas. In this paper, firstly we discuss the structure of GSM radio network, including the basic content and process of radio network optimization. Secondly, we focus on the wireless network optimization of low traffic density areas with emphasis on cover and parameters. Thirdly, we discuss the issues of high traffic density area. In this section, we mainly discuss how to solve handover and drop call. In the end, combine these two areas’network characteristics, we give an idea of further network construction based on Dual Band network, LAC, Uplink Interference Cancellation, and look into the future of mobile communication network development. In different areas, we should take different method to solve the problem of GSM radio network. We compare two typical traffic density areas, analyze their GSM network optimization, and find out the similarities and differences in the process of daily optimizing. The network optimization is a long-term process, we should keep gaining experiences and finding ways to solve the problems. Only in this way, we can build a higher quality network and provide more thoughtful services.
