Through thousands of years of evolution, biological systems have achieved an unimaginably delicate and sophisticated state. We can find out "the New World" in terms of functions, structures, even control mechanisms. It is like an Inexhaustible treasure, which is widely learnt and utilized during lots kinds of problems-solving. In human life, study and application of bionics are in everywhere. The research select the most perfect, the most delicate, most complex part of human body, the visual system to discovery, and focus on the functional structure of primary visual cortex.From the retina to the lateral geniculate nucleus, from the lateral geniculate nucleus to the primary visual cortex, from the primary visual cortex to higher cortical areas, with the increasly deepened understanding of the human visual system, the main functional distribution of visual system gradually becomes better known, such as:the retina receives signals(stimulate) from external, lateral geniculate nucleus have weak orientation sensitivity, transfer signal between the retina and the cortex. After several decades, with the study of scholars from various fields, though there are still some parts of the primary visual cortex is unknown; it is the most studied area of the human visual cortical areas. It can be said that the process of human learning visual system, mostly depends on the achievement of physiology and anatomy science, obtains a large number of data from experiments on primary visual cortex.The work based on these data, establish a computational model which is loyal to biological nature of the primary visual cortex (early visual system), compared to the distribution of a single cell or connection, the model is more concerned about complex structure and information processing paths in the primary visual cortex, especially the orientation functional columns of the primary visual cortex is an important part. Based on this model, some experiments is designed to test the accuracy, efficiency, robustness of orientation columns in order to confirmed the validity and reliability of the model.At the same time relying on the model, the analysis of information from the front phase becomes more effective, while further exploration on the features in higher the visual cortex is done. The primary visual has a strong parallel processing capabilities and information reorganizing mechanism for various types of static information, motion information, so the portability of transfer the model into another function is a part of the future work. The early visual system model can be provided some ideas for some disturbing applications problems. Such as the repairing of damage of early visual system, problem in any part can result in a certain visual function defect. Attempt to find the source of problem in the model system, do experiments difficult in anatomy and biology. Now some laboratories began the design of artificial visual cortex, it should be compatible with the biological structures of the cortex and power computational capabilities in handling various types of information, while energy consumption should be controlled. The model can be used to find a most reasonable design which balances these conflicting conditions.Some existing domestic and international simulation model on the structure and function of visual cortex can be divided in according to field of application: neuroscience oriented, computer science oriented, electronics engineering hardware oriented. Some of these models are limited to a certain neural structure or a single feature; others just use some framework of the visual cortex while skipping bio-based information process. In general, these models are not sufficient in the simulation of visual cortex function and structure. So with the most basic features, keeping natural connection structure from neural biology, anatomy, electrophysiology, the establishment of computational model of the primary visual cortex have a great meaning.
