The 3rd mobile communication technology is a kind of new technology which is based on meeting the people’s requirement of data service with high rate. WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TDSCDMA were defined as three major wireless interface standards of IMT-2000 by ITU-R in 2000. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) is an international standardization organization with the scope to produce technical specifications for evolved 3G Mobile System based on evolved GSM core networks. CHINA UNICOM have deployed a commercial nationwide HSPA network based on the 3GPP Release 6.The HSPA network is able to transfer speeds up to 14.4Mbps for downlink and 5.76Mbps for up-link in theory。The HSPA evolution also known as "HSPA+" brings a number of further substantial enhancements to the network performance, such like 64QAM, MIMO based on 3GPP R7. The first stage of HSPA network upgrade is to support 64QAM in order to theoretical speeds up to 21 Mbps in downlink which could increase the peak bit rate by 50% compared with HSDPA.After 64QAM being introduced, how much will improve the real network performance, how much range will be perceived by end-user, how to make the layout of the network more efficient are very important topics at the beginning of HSPA+ network building. This thesis has a plentiful research on these topics. The thesis first introduces WCDMA, HSPA and HSPA+key technologies briefly. Then the link adaption, packet scheduling algorithm, OCNS, test method and network parameter setting are also presented for relative research. Based on introducing of channel mode, EVM and simulation results of 3GPP technical reports, we preliminary understand the link performance and the network performance of HSPA+network after introducing 64QAM. Finally after upgrading HSPA network in Tianjin, with single cell link test, network traversal test,outdoor/indoor cell multi-user throughout test, the thesis surveys on the 64QAM scheduling rate, network performance promotion and end-user’s perception change comprehensivly. Afterwards, with these test results, the thesis gives some useful suggestions for HSPA+network migration and optimization. The conclusions of the thesis have some reference value on HSPA+ nerwork deployment.
