With the rapid development of communication technology, multiple-inputmultiple-output (MIMO) technology has become key technology in mobilecommunication.MIMO is a multi-antenna technology, in which multiple antennasplaced separately both at the transmitting and receiving ends. MIMO can enhancecapacity and frequency spectrum utilization efficiency of communication system whilemaintaining bandwidth, improving link reliability, and reducing bit error rate. However,the related space-time coding algorithm has high complexity, and the requirement ofmultiple antennas in mobile terminals is difficult to achieve. This brings great difficultyin real application.To address the above problem, this thesis consist of two parts: the space-timecodes algorithm research and antenna design. Related work mainly includes thefollowing respects: Firstly, a brief introduction to MIMO was given. The first problemwas raised: How to reduce algorithm complexity without channel capacity penalty, inorder to enable the real application of MIMO. This thesis proposed sphere decodingalgorithm to solve it. Related contents include introduction to sphere decodingalgorithm, evolution of sphere decoding algorithm, and improved sphere decodingalgorithm design. Then the second problem was raised: How to integrate multipleantenna in mobile terminal. The thesis designed and made microstrip antenna in mobileterminal, to evaluate the feasibility of solution. Related contents include introduction tomicrostrip antenna and its history, antenna making, simulation and test. Finally, wesummarized our work and make some expectation of further work.
