In recent years, the technology of the electromagnetic propulsion developed rapidly, which has broke a new avenue to solve the requirements of high speed and big mass. In the electromagnetic launch, electromagnetic energy is transformed into kinetic energy, which makes the projectile (armature)launch with the electromagnetic force. The method of the electromagnetic force to accelerate the projectile has some characteristics, such as high energy utilization and controllable acceleration, which becomes an ideal mean of propulsion. As the important piece of electromagnetic propulsion device, the synchronous control system controls the running process of the system. The reliability and precision of synchronous control system influences the effect of the system significantly.Based on the basic theory about the technology of electromagnetic propulsion, combining EDA technology, the trait of large programmable logic device and the technology of serial communication, the accurate synchronous trigger system of multistage switches based on FPGA is designed and achieved. Firstly, the characteristics, domestic and international status of electromagnetic propulsion technology are introduced and the principle of synchronous induction coil electromagnetic propulsion is analyzed. Then, the recent schemes of synchronous control system are analyzed and a ameliorative scheme is designed. On this basis, the improved control system, which can be used to control switches accurately in other circuits, can achieve the arbitrary time delay between0.1us~10ms for turn-on or turn-off of three controllable switches. The whole system includes the communication software and the real-time hardware control based on FPGA. The PC communication software settles the low real-time task likes communication and alternation of man and machine etc. Hard-time part namely programmable logic units, which adopts the Top-Down designing method, gives the design and simulation results of the important modules. Aiming at the problems of speed measure in recent methods, a device of speed measure based on FPGA was designed in this paper. At the end, the function of synchronous control and measurement of velocity are verified, and the correlative measures of reliability design are also discussed.Both theoretical analysis and experimental study show that the synchronous control system designed in this paper has good practicability and expansibility and improves the performance of electromagnetic propulsion device for the better practical significance.
