According to the "5W" method proposed by the American scholar Harold Dwight Lasswell, publication and distribution of the CP is divided into the processes of dissemination of documentations. From this perspective, the CP initiates dissemination of documentations, censors and distributes the content; it determines not only the existence and development but also the depth and scale of dissemination of documentations. In the second chapter, the author analyzes how the CP managed to select and control source information to satisfy or even to guide the need of its recipients in order to accomplish its dual-purpose of profitability and communication by studying its three different levels of "censors", namely the CP itself-a private, for-earning press, the publisher Zhang Yuanji-whose aspirations were to "promote education", and the editorial department of the CP.The third chapter is on the content of documentations disseminated by the CP, in other words, the "censored" information in documentations, which consists of both extrinsic and intrinsic layers, conveyed to the recipients. In this dissertation, intrinsic information disseminated by the CP is categorized by subject into four main areas: social science, natural science, applied technologies, as well as literature, history and geology; extrinsic information is categorized by the forms of carriers into book and periodicals. The fourth chapter is about channels of dissemination of documentations. A circulation channel is essential for any piece of documentation information to reach its recipients, i.e. to be disseminated. As far as the CP was concerned, such a channel for all book and periodicals it edited and published for its dual-purpose of profitability and communication to be achieved. Circulation channels of the CP are divided into market channels and non-market channels in this dissertation. Market channel were branches established by the CP, where publications were obtained through direct purchase while non-market channels were public institutions such as libraries, where readers could exploit publications without direct payments to the CP.The fifth chapter focus primarily on the recipients of documentations. As an important factor of the dissemination process, recipients both consumes disseminated documentations and provide feedbacks on the effect of dissemination. In the period of the Republic of China, recipients of the CP included not only those scholars and intellectuals, but also students of new-style schools, children, readers in public libraries, metropolis readers and the general populace. In the sixth chapter, effects of dissemination of documentations-the last stage of the whole dissemination process is studied. Through the study of various aspects such as political and cultural ones, influence of the CP on both the society and documentation dissemination activities are analyzed. The seventh chapter is the conclusion chapter which summarizes the whole dissertation.
