As ultra-short lasers were widely applicated in industrial, medical, communication andso on, ultra-short laser technology are developed rapidly. LD pumped solid-state lasers havebecome the central focus of recent researches, due to their simple structure, high efficiency,stable property. Yb-doped crystals are the important part of ultrafast laser. Yb3+-dopedSc2SiO5is oxyorthosilicate biaxial monoclinic crystal with high thermal conductivity andwide emission crosssection. It is an ideal laser crystal in the realization of LD pumpedultralfast lasers. This dissertation mainly researched the laser characteristics LD pumpedYbSSO crystal. Main contents can be summarized as follows:1、In this part we introduced the development history of ultrafast lasers, as well as thecharacteristics of Yb3+-doped Sc2SiO5crystal. In this part we introduced three differentSaturable Absorber—SESAM, carbon nanotuble saturable absorber,grephene oxide saturableabsorber, and introduced the difference of the different Saturable Absorber.2、We sutdy the performance of passively mode-locked Yb:SSO laser with a SESAM.The maximum output power of 543m W was achieved with pulse width of 4.2ps. The centerwavelength was 1040nm and the bandwidth was 1.3nm.3、Novel single walled carbon nanotuble saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA) wassuccessfully fabricated and was used in generating passively mode-locked Yb:SSO. Themaximum output power of Yb:SSO/RSWCNT-SA laser was349mW, and the pulse width was1.8ps at the center wavelength of 1062nm.4、Novel double walled carbon nanotuble saturable absorber (DWCNT-SA) wassuccessfully fabricated and was used in generating passively mode-locked Yb:SSO. Themaximum output power of Yb:SSO/DWCNT-SA laser was 818mW, and the pulse width was15ps at the center wavelength of 1062.6nm. Laser pulses as short as 1.6 ps were generated byinserting a pair of SF10 uncoated prisms into the cavity to compensate the cavity dispersion.5、Novel grephene oxide saturable absorber (grephene oxide -SA) was successfullyfabricated and was used in generating passively mode-locked Yb:SSO. The maximum output power of Yb:SSO/ transmission-type grephene oxide -SA laser was2.05W, and the centerwavelength of 1062nm. And, the maximum output power of Yb:SSO/ reflection-typegrephene oxide -SA laser was 355mW, and the pulse width was 1.7ps at the center wavelengthof 1062nm.
