The most typical characteristic of future wireless mobile systems is the requirement for high data speed. As representative of the international standardize organization,3GPP LTE/LTE-Advanced is actively promoting the Fourth Generation Wireless Communication System (4G). Since carrier aggregation (CA) is capable of transmitting multiple scattered component carriers simultaneously, it is adopted as one of the most important key techniques of IMT-Advanced. In addition, due to its potential in improving the spectrum efficiency and the corresponding data rate, the standardization works of Enhanced-CA are still the focus of LTE-Advanced Release 11.Based on the national scientific projects involving both standardization research and theoretical study, the thesis mainly focuses on the following four items of CA technique:system coexistence study, evaluation of BS demodulation, uplink power control scheme, and the optimization of energy efficiency.Firstly, through the two-layer static coexistence evaluation, the paper proves the feasibility of initial CA scenarios, which are introduced into LTE Release 10.Next, BS demodulation schemes for CA uplink channel are proposed. The quality of the transmitted signal and the channel formats are also evaluated. Moreover, the paper proposes the uplink power control scheme, the CA scenario with power budgets, and three power-scaling methods. Through the performance evaluation and the complexity analysis, the optimal scaling method is accomplished. Finally, based on the former standardization accumulation, the thesis works on the energy efficiency issue of CA-MIMO system with the tools of matrix and convex theories. The degenerative conditions for multiple power limits and the optimal power allocation algorithms are deduced for a CA-MIMO radio link. In addition, the above results are applicable to the general heterogeneous CA scenario.
