With the current rapid increase of the socio-economic development level and the maturity of science and technology, people’s requirements of security technology have become more sophisticated. What followed by is the generation of video surveillance systems and its widely application. Currently, the mainstream technology of video surveillance systems are wireless digital video surveillance systems which are based on embedded technology. Because of the embedded video encoder which can transfer the source signal into digital signal, system does not need do deal with analog video signal; in addition, wireless video surveillance system can be deployed flexibly and fast without complicated wiring work, it can hardly be affected by topography, and is fit for an outdoor environment with long transmission distance; terminal is light and flexible, suitable for the location changing, so it is easy to build a network and realize the new entry and withdrawal of terminals. Because of the advantages mentioned above, developing and implementing a wireless video surveillance system based on embedded technology have important practical significances and wide application prospects.First of all, the paper describes the development process of video surveillance systems and analysis development prospects and applications of embedded technology-based video surveillance system. Designs the overall plan of the system based on embedded technology and ARM architecture, researches and implements the migration of embedded Bootloader, Linux kernel, and filesystem. The paper then designs and implements the video capture module and camera control module based on the research of camera driver and I2C bus device driver in Linux. The AODV route protocol has been improved based on the study of the wireless Ad-hoc network protocols, and video transfer module, video receiving module, video decoding/playing module and face recognition module are all designed and realized based on the Socket, FFMPEG and OpenCV technology. Finally achieved a wireless video surveillance system, the result suggests that the system meets the requirements of design objectes.
